Any drivers caught talking or texting on a hand-held cell phone in New York State will face additional punishment: two points on their license and a hefty fine of $100.00.
This is the stiffest ban ever imposed by the nation on usage of hand held cell phones while driving, and it will be enforced by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
The purpose of this law is to is to strengthen the already existing law that has been in place since 2001, in order to protect serious danger to the drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
According to DMV officers distracted driving contributes to a least one out of every five crashes. Each year over 300,000 tickets are issued statewide for cell phone violations.
